Botox ® (Botuinum) Injections

Treatment for:

  1. Antiwrinkle and antiageing
  2. Excess sweating
  3. Headaches

Botox ® is a well-established brand name for a chemical called Botulinum Toxin. The reason why this brand is so popular is that it is made by one of the biggest companies in the world, Allergan. It is also because the product simply works perfectly and is painless to use, unlike other products.

Repeated use of a muscle can cause the wrinkle lines to appear.  One reason for that is that the muscles in the face are actually intimately connected to the skin. Stopping the muscles working gets rid of the wrinkles.  Botox ® Injections are used to reduce lines and wrinkles in that way.  This blocks the message coming from the nerve ends to the brain and this stops the muscle working.  Botox ® is thought to be the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure worldwide, and certainly is in Mr Souéid’s practice

FAQ’s

Do Botox ® treatments help wrinkles?

Botox ® is an anti-wrinkle injection. It reduces or sometimes totally eliminates wrinkles. This makes the eyes look wider and brighter and improves frown lines.

Which areas are can be injected by Botox ® for anti-ageing treatments?

The commonest areas are the outer eyes, known as the crow’s feet, the glabella, which is the area between the eyebrows, and the forehead frown lines. It is also used to inject the upper nose, called the bunny lines, and below the nose to prevent excess show of the teeth, called gummy smile. It can also be used to treat the neck bands and to lift the eyebrows.

I heard that Botox ® helps stop sweating?

Botox ® is a useful treatment for hyperhidrosis, which is a condition resulting in excessive sweating.  It can be used in the forehead, in the arm pits, in the palms and even the soles of the feet.  It is one of the our most common bride and groom treatments in preparation for the big day.

Can Botox ® help my headaches?

One of the know benefits of Botox ® injections is that it can help some people suffering from headaches, especially frontal headaches. It works by relaxing the Frontalis muscle, thus releasing the muscle tension and helping with the headaches.

Once the full effect of the botox has taken place, that part of the face movements will be reduced. However of course you will be able to move the rest of your face and express yourself and continue to be able to smile, and look surprised, and hopefully not on many occasions look angry.

Does Botox ® work straight away?

It takes up to 2 weeks for it to work. Botox ® can work anytime during this time, from around day 3 to day 14.  It can work slowly or suddenly overnight.

How long does the effect of Botox ® injection last?

That varies from person to person, depending on how quickly your body breaks down the protein from which it is made. Effects range from 2 months to 8 months in some, the commonest being between 4 to 6 months.

Is Botox Safe?

The doses of Botox ® used for cosmetic facial procedures are low and so the risk of toxicity is very low. Like any procedure there are risks which are in the section below.

What happens after treatment with Botox ® injections?

You can carry on as normal in your routine daily activities. Mr Souéid advises that you should avoid gym exercise and saunas for 24 hours and apply makeup later in the day.

What are the complications of Botox ®?

The potential complications of treatment are rare but include:

Bruising, Bleeding, Swelling

Immediately after injection you may experience some bruising or bleeding.  It is normal to have some swelling at the injection sites immediately after the procedure.  This swelling usually resolves within a few hours.  If you get bruising this may take a few days to resolve.

Eyelid or Brow Droop or Ptosis

You may experience a minor drop in first few days after  treatment but this is usually temporary and resolves within 2 weeks.  Occasionally, however, it may spread or migrate and weaken nearby muscles.  The result of this may include drooping of the area treated such as drooping of the brow, eyelid or mouth.  This is uncommon and if injected by an experienced surgeon the risks should be minimal.  There are other factors that can result in spreading of the Botox ® such as massaging or rubbing the area after treatment.  Mr Nassab will advise you about things to avoid following treatment.

Asymmetry

Everyone has some degree of asymmetry or unevenness.  After treatment, some areas may take the Botox ® better than others.  This means there may be some areas that are uneven.  This can easily be corrected using an additional treatment.

Do I see the results immediately?

No.  It takes time for the treatment to work on the muscle.  You will usually see some signs of treatment after 4-5 days but it can take up to 2 weeks to see the full effects of the treatment.
